Free Pattern: Fragments in Time
The simple hourglass blocks of this stash-busting quilt make a bold statement.
Hourglass blocks are a reminder that the time is NOW to make use of leftovers fabrics! Limiting the color palette to variations of the six tertiary colors still gives a scrappy look without the busy-ness of prints.
Bonus outcome: more confidence in using all solids in a project. Like a scrappy quilt, the “leftovers quilt” also allows for reminiscing on projects from the past.
Planning and piecing the quilt
This quilt pattern is the perfect way to use up leftover fabrics, but it is graphic enough to inspire a shopping trip to your local quilt shop too!
Use an accurate ¼” seam allowance throughout to ensure all elements of the quilt fit together well.
Handle all bias edges carefully to avoid distortion.

Quilting and finishing tips
Quilt as desired. While this quilt looks lovely stitched with an overall pattern, it also lends itself well to custom quilting in it’s various square and triangle piecing shapes. Consider playing around with ruler work to differentiate alternate blocks, as well.
